Generally, under the Philippines’ Visa Policy, foreign nationals who are citizens of ASEAN member states, residents of non-ASEAN member states whose nationals are allowed to enter the country visa-free, and balikbayans (returning Filipinos who worked or lived abroad) temporarily returning to the Philippines do not have to obtain a visa. However, all foreign nationals are required to comply with the policy when it comes to securing an immigrant or non-immigrant visa for certain purposes.

9A Visa (Temporary Visitor’s Visa)
Temporary visa for short stays (tourism, business, medical), valid initially for 30 days, extendable up to 59 days.
  • Visa waiver
    Initial 29 days visa extension only.
    May file for another extension, 1 month, 2 months, or 6 months
    Applicable for countries whose nationals are 30days visa free entry to the Philippines under Executive Order 048.
    Attached list of countries/nationalities for reference.
  • Temporary visitor visa extension beyond 59days
    (1 month, 2 months, or 6 months extension)

    Applicable for countries whose nationals are required for approved visa before entry to
    the Philippines.

    ***Tourist I card are mandatory for all foreign nationals staying beyond 59days.
9G Visa (Pre-Arranged Employment Visa)
For foreign nationals entering the Philippines to work with an existing employment contract.
  • Is the most common type of work visa applied for foreign national who will engage in lawful and gainful employment in the Philippines.
    Alien Employment Permit (AEP) from the Department of Labor and Employment is one of the mandatory requirements for 9g visa application.
  • Whole process of the application including the AEP is approximately 2 to 3 months. 9A temporary visitor visa must be updated or extended until the 9g visa application is approved.
  • 9g visa allows the foreign nationals to legally work and in the country for the duration approved by Bureau of Immigration which is conterminous with the Alien Employment permit and Employment Contract. Also, holder of this visa allows foreign national for multiple exit and entry of the country while working with a company and while visa is valid.
  • If the employer and foreign nationals wish to extend the visa and contract. May file for extension of Alien Employment Permit and 9g visa at least 60 days before its expiration.
  • Important reminder to all that we could only start processing of the work permit and visa applications when the employer-company has already secured its local/Philippine business registrations and the Foreign national is currently in the Philippines.
9D Visa (Treaty Trader or Treaty Investor Visa)
For nationals from the U.S., Japan, and Germany entering for trade or investment under existing treaties.
SWP (Special Work Permit)
Short-term work permit (3-6 months) for foreign nationals.
  • Permit to allow foreign nationals to work legally in the Philippines for short term assignments/consultancy of up to 6 months.

    The SWP is valid for 3 months during the initial application and extendible for another 3 months.

    While the SWP is valid, the status of the foreign national remains as temporary visitor visa. Thus, 9A temporary visitor visa must be updated or extended.

    Maximum 6 months validity only. Beyond 6 months contract must apply for working permit and visa with DOLE and Immigration.
PWP (Provisional Work Permit)
Temporary work permit while awaiting processing of pre-arranged employment visa.
  • Issued to foreign nationals who currently hold temporary visitor visas but wish to commence work in the Philippines while the approval of their employment visa application is in progress, (either the 9G or 9D).

    Normally valid for three (3) months from the date of issuance or until the employment visa issued, whichever comes first. It is also extendible for another 3 months.

    Note that before we can apply for PWP, foreign nationals must Alien Employment Permit from DOLE as one of the mandatory requirements.
AEP (Alien Employment Permit)
A prerequisite for PWP and 9G Visas; does not grant work authorization by itself.
  • The Alien Employment Permit (AEP) is a permit issued to a foreign national ho intend to engage in gainful employment in the Philippines after a determination of the non-availability of Filipino citizen who is competent, able and willing at the time of application to perform the services for which the Foreign national is desired.
Downgrade
Allows foreign nationals to apply for reversion to temporary visitor/tourist status to continue legal stay.
DFA Passport Assistance/Authentication
Assistance in securing appointments for new passport applications or renewals.
ECC (Emigration Clearance Certificate)
Required for foreign nationals with immigrant/non-immigrant visas leaving temporarily.
13A (Immigrant Visa by Marriage)
Converts status to non-quota immigrant visa for foreign nationals married to a Philippine citizen.
TRV (Temporary Resident Visa)
For foreign nationals from countries without reciprocity agreements, allowing them to stay in the Philippines temporarily based on marriage.
Embassy Visas for Foreigners and Filipinos
For tourism/business purposes, allowing travel for short-term visits and engagements.
